Walter Barrie

British soldier, Walter Barrie, age 41, of Glasgow, died on November 11, 2012, in the Nad-e Ali district of Helmand Province, Afghanistan. 

Walter was a member of the Royal Scots Borderers, 1st Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland. 

He was playing football on a Sunday in Afghanistan when he was shot and killed by a member of the Afghan Army.

He had been assigned to mentoring a brigade of the Afghan National Army. 

Walter had 25 years of service to his country including tours of duty in Iraq, Bosnia, Kosovo, Northern Ireland and Afghanistan, once before in 2008.

Military officials describe him as having a winning personality and a man who will be sorely missed. He is also described as an engaging and professional soldier who was well-liked.

His wife stated that Walter was a great man, a doting and amazing father and a fantastic husband. 

Walter is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife, Sophie; and his 15 year old son, Callum. 

Let us pray that Walter Barrie is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
