Channing Hicks

Sgt. Channing B. Hicks, age 24, of Greer, South Carolina, died on November 16, 2012, in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device and small arms fire.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.

He was known as "Bo" to his family and friends.

Channing graduated from Greer High School in 2006, where he played football.  High school officials describe him as a quiet and respectful.

Channing joined the Army in June of 2006. He previously served two deployments to Iraq with the 1st Infantry Division.  This was his first deployment to Afghanistan.

Family members stated that he wanted to serve in the military even as a kid.  He had planned on making the military his long term career. 

He is described as a good man and a patriot who was well loved by his family. 

Channing is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his father, Chan Hicks Sr.; his brother, John Hicks; and two young children ages 6 and 7.
