Anthony Rakes - Law Enforcement - Kentucky

Deputy Sheriff Anthony Rakes, age 31, died in the line of duty on November 14, 2012, near Lebanon, Kentucky. 

Anthony was a member of the Marion County Sheriff's Office, Kentucky.  He had 6 years of service. He had previously served with the Lebanon Police Department. 

Anthony was making a traffic stop on a highway near Lebanon, Kentucky, at about 2:00 a.m.  As he was approaching the car, the driver opened fire with a small caliber handgun, striking Deputy Rakes. Despite being wounded, Deputy Rakes was able to return fire.

The subject fled on foot but was arrested a short time later by members of the Kentucky State Police and Campbellsville Police Department.

Deputy Rakes was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

Police comrades said that Anthony always wanted to be a police officer.  He is described as a quiet, soft-spoken man, who was well-liked.  They are grieving. 

Others describe him as easy-going and popular.

Anthony is survived by many loving friends and relatives.
