On her last night alive, she had dinner with colleagues and drinks with a male friend who offered to escort her home. She refused, insisting that she'd be fine to walk alone the short and familiar route back to her flat where her husband Tom was waiting.
She never made it home and her body was found buried in a shallow grave on September 28, 2012.
Adrian Ernest Bayley, age 41, of Coburg, has been charged with her rape and murder.
Jill was born in Drogheda, Ireland, near Dublin.

There has been a huge outpouring of grief over Jill's death both in Australia and in Ireland. 30,000 people marched in Melbourne in support of Jill's family and in demonstration against rape, murder and violence against women.
Jill had worked at the Australian Broadcasting for a short time.
Friends describe Jill as much loved and a woman who will be forever missed.
Jill is survived by many loving friends and relatives including her parents, George and Edith; her brother, Michael; and her husband, Tom Meagher.
Pray for all who die young and suddenly. They are with us one moment and gone the next.
God save us from the Lost Ones who stalk the Earth stealing away life. Amen.
Let us pray that Jill Meagher is in heaven. Let us pray that she is at peace and is with God. Amen.
