Jose was a member of the Westfield Police Department. He had 27 years of service.
Jose was working at a construction site at 7:30 a.m. He was directing traffic when he was struck by a truck working at the site. He was transported to a local hospital where he died 2 hours later.
Jose was an Army veteran. He was was appointed a reserve police officer in February of 1985 and hired as a full-time patrolman in August of 1985.
He was twice decorated for heroism during his 27-year police career.

Police Officials stated that Jose was well-liked and well-respected both in the department and the community.
Neighbors describe Jose as friendly and caring.
Town officials describe him as well-known and well-liked with a big smile and a generous personality.
Comrades said that Jose always saw the positive things in life even during negative or dangerous situations. They said that he was a kind man and a family oriented man.
Jose is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife, Kara and his two sons - Jay and Christopher.
Pray for all who die in the line of duty.
