He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Nicholas attended West Hills High School in Santee. He joined the Army in 2000.

He had deployed three times to Iraq and three times to Afghanistan.
His awards and decorations include the Presidential Unit Citation Award, the Valorous Unit Award, the Meritorious Unit Commendation with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Army Achievement Medal. He was promoted posthumously to staff sergeant and awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart and NATO Medal.
Friends stated that Nicholas' family were always extremely proud of him.
Military comrades describe him as a great squad leader and a man who would do anything for a brother.
Nicholas is survived by many loving friends and relatives, including his parents, Carl and Sherry Fredsti; and his sister, Sarah.
Let us pray that Nicholas Fredsti is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
