Survivors of the massacre said that regime forces entered their homes and killed their families. Many of those killed were children, who were slain by close-range gunfire or knife attacks.
The people who carried out these attacks are believed to be "Alawites", who are members of an obscure Islamic sect that governs Syria. The Syrian Dictator, Bashar Al-Assad, is an Alawite. His Alawite militia is called the "Shabbiha". Most of the victims of these attacks were Shia Muslims. The Alawites don't like Shias and they kill them.
One man said "I have three children. I lost three children."
There is nothing like religion, of whatever kind, to warm your heart. You can be killed by people of a different religion because of basic theological differences or you can be killed by members of your own faith because of sectarian differences. Or you can be killed by members of your own faith who are dictators and who are greedy, power hungry sons of bitches.
Could you kill me? Yes, if you live in Syria. |
Who could look a 5 year old girl in the face and then kill her? Apparently, Syrians can.
At least 10,000 people have died since protests against the Assad regime broke out in March of 2011.
God help us all. Jesus, Mary and all saints and all angels pray for us. Amen.
