He was with the 1st Battalion, 393rd Infantry Regiment, 479th Field Artillery Brigade.
Christopher had suffered a gunshot wound on February 20, 2012, at Fort Hood, Texas. The cause of his death is under investigation.
Christopher joined the U.S. Army in April of 1998 as an infantryman. He arrived at Fort Hood in January of 2005. He had been assigned to the 1st Battalion, 393rd Infantry Regiment, 479th Field Artillery Brigade since September 2009.
He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from December of 2005 to November of 2006 and from June of 2008 to May of 2009.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, four Army Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge and Parachutist Badge.
Christopher is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his parents, Dan and Louise; brother, Dan; sister, Serenity; his wife Adrian Atkinson and their five sons Micah, Elijah, Malikai, Raidyn and Isaiah.
Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Christopher Atkinson is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
