A renegade Afghan soldier shot dead four French unarmed troops participating with the Afghans in a sporting event. Another 15 French soldiers were wounded. The attacker was arrested. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

He was born in Echirolles and enlisted in the Army in 2006. He joined the 93rd Mountain Regiment.
Military officials describe him a valuable and versatile mechanic. He is also described as reliable.
He had previously served in Guyana.
Geoffrey Baumela is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his partner, Jessica, and his child; and a sister, Alison.
Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Geoffrey Baumela is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
