Laurent Marsol

French soldier, Warrant Officer Laurent Marsol, age 35, was killed on July 13, 2011, in a village in the Tagab District of Kapisa Province, Afghanistan, due to a suicide bombing by an insurgent.

French soldiers, local leaders and tribal elders had gathered to discuss potential road projects, new dams, bridges and other development projects that are important elements of the military’s attempts to build goodwill among Afghans and restore the country’s shattered infrastructure, when a suicide bomber walked up and detonated his explosives.

Laurent was born in Toulouse. He joined the French Army in June 1998 and served in various oversees locations including Gabon, Chad, Kosovo and Afghanistan. 

Military officials praised him for his exemplary behavior, his sporting ability, his technical skills and his humility. 

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Laurent Marsol is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
