Jamie Ronald Larcombe

Australian Sapper Jamie Ronald Larcombe, age 21, was killed on February 19, 2011, in Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan.

He was shot dead in the opening volleys from an enemy force that assaulted the Australian position with machine guns and rifles.

Jamie Larcombe, described as "fun and loving" is the only son and oldest child of a close-knit country South Australian family.  He was mid-way through his first tour of Afghanistan and had been in the army for just three years. His only other deployment was to Sumatra in 2009 to help after the earthquake.

"His life ambition was to serve his country," the family said. "Jamie loved life and loved to give where he could. A dedicated brother, son and partner, he could always be relied on. Anyone who came in contact with Jamie grew to love him for his personality and great sense of humour. He will always be in our hearts."

Military officials stated that he was a dependable country boy with a keen sense of humour who was a team player, a quiet achiever who worked hard and was focused on getting the job done.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Jamie R. Larcombe is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
