Kevin M. Pape

Staff Sgt. Kevin M. Pape, age 30, died November 16, 2010, in Konar province, Afghanistan, when Taliban fighters attacked his unit with small arms fire.

Besides his three deployments to Afghanistan, Kevin Pape previously served on three deployments to Iraq.

"Kevin Pape had two priorities in his life -- his family and the Rangers he led," said military officials from Fort Bragg. "Kevin was literally the lead Ranger in a heavy fire fight against a large number of Taliban in some of the most rugged and extreme terrain in Afghanistan. By the manner in which he lived his life, Staff Sgt. Pape defined sacrifice, dedication, and selfless service."

Kevin Pape was part of the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, based at Hunter Army Airfield, Ga. He enlisted in the Army in 2005.

Kevin Pape has been awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Meritorious Service awards.

He is survived by his wife, Amelia Pape, and daughter Anneka, both of Savannah, Ga.; and father Marc D. Pape of Fort Wayne.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Kevin Pape is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
