Thomas Cottrell - Police Officer Fatality - Ohio

Tom Cottrell
Police Officer Thomas Cottrell died in the line of duty on January 17, 2016, in Danville, Ohio.

Officer Cottrell was a member of the Danville Police Department.

Danville is a village in Knox County, Ohio with a population of just over 1,000.

Around 11:30 p.m., dispatchers got a message from a woman who stated that her ex-boyfriend, Herschel Ray Jones was armed with a weapon and was on a rampage, looking to kill a cop.

Officer Cottrell was out looking for Herschel Ray Jones, but dispatchers were not able to reach him to tell him that Jones was on a psychotic rampage.

Officers weren't able to reach Officer Cottrell and a massive search was undertaken. Tragically, his body was found behind the village's municipal hall. His patrol car and service revolver had been stolen.

Herschel Ray Jones was taken into custody by the Police two hours later. He has an

He had previously been charged with burglary, break and enter, receipt of stolen property including weapons, criminal trespassing, unauthorized use of a vehicle, driving under suspension, assault and disorderly conduct and other charges. This dude has a rap sheet like Judas.
