Australian Soldier - Matthew Millhouse - dies of dementia caused by bomb in Iraq

Matthew Millhouse, age 36, died on August 28, 2015, in Hobart, Tasmania.

Matthew Millhouse had served with the 2nd Cavalry Regiment of the Australian Army. He was deployed to Iraq in 2004.

Matthew had been in a nursing home for the past several years. He died of dementia.

In 2004, Matthew was in an armoured vehicle that was blown up by an improvised explosive device. At that time Matthew suffered a concussion but seemed, at least on the surface, to be alright.

He later developed post traumatic stress disorder and suffered from depression. He started abusing alcohol. Then two years ago he was diagnosed with early onset dementia. It is believed that the concussion and the brain injury he suffered triggered the dementia.

A fundraising site has been set up to help the family with funeral and other expenses.

served his country with honor. He will be forever remembered.

Matthew's loved ones are devastated over his tragic death. His wife describes Matt as her beloved husband, best friend and soul mate. He retained his sense of integrity, humour and love right to the end. He will be forever mourned.

Oceans of tears have been shed for this man.

Matthew is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife, Terese, and his daughter, Eleanor.

Pray without ceasing unto God for an end to all war. It is enough. We are sick with grief for men like Matthew.
