On August 25, 2015, he was approaching a vehicle checkpoint when two men dressed as Afghan soldiers opened fire. The Afghan shooters were killed by NATO service members who returned fire.

Tragically, Forrest passed away the following day.

He had been deployed four times in seven years.  He was the recipient of four Bronze medals.

Friends describe Forrest as a great guy who treated everyone well. He was bold, energetic, fearless and patriotic. He was helpful and uptempo and liked to have fun with his friends. He cared about the work he was doing for his country.
