At about 1:30 p.m. Kevin was on the train and was about a mile from the apartment he rented with several roommates.
Jason Spires, age 18, tried to grab a cellphone tucked into Kevin's waistband. The two struggled and Kevin was punched and kicked until he fell to the floor. He was then stabbed 30 or 40 times all over his body. After this Jason Spires continued to stomp on Kevin's body.
It is believed that Jason Spires was high on synthetic drugs. After killing Kevin, Jason Spires, turned his knife to others on the train and demanded money, which he received. Everyone in the rail car was petrified with fear and were afraid to intervene. He fled the train once it stopped but dropped a bag with his health insurance card inside.
Jason Spires has been charged with first degree murder. A week or so previously, Spires had accosted a man on the street with a view to robbing him and had tried to kick the cops who tried to handcuff him.
This kid is only 18 years old and yet he is already racking up a rap sheet like Judas. Who raised this murderously violent kid - wolves?
Jason Spires is innocent unless proven guilty. However, we put this question to the thief who killed Kevin: What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul?

Kevin Sutherland graduated from Trumbull High School in 2009. He attended the American University in Washington D.C. and received his bachelor's degree in Political Science and Communications in 2013.
He was involved in student government and worked for a Democratic Congressman
from Connecticut and also volunteered for the White House Office of Presidential Correspondence.
Kevin was employed at a digital/news media strategy firm that specializes in helping Democratic candidates through fundraising.
Kevin wanted to improve our world. He was politically active. He liked photography, soccer, and country music.
Kevin's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He inspired all those around him. He had a sense of humor and made others laugh. He was just starting out on a productive life. He will be forever mourned.
He was an only child. Oceans of tears will be shed for Kevin.
Kevin is survived by many loving friends and family members including his parents Douglas and Theresa Sutherland.
Pray for justice for Kevin.
God save us from the drugged-up psychopaths. They are killing us, Father. Amen.
Pray that Kevin is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
