James Boergers Jr. - a victim of murder in Ohio

James Boergers
James Boergers Jr., age 31, of Jacksonville, Florida, died on July 19, 2014, in Hocking Hills, Ohio.

James was in the company of Kimberly Napoli, age 32. They were renting a cabin at Hocking Hills.

Michael Napoli
Michael Napoli, age 33, of Westerville, Ohio, who is the ex-husband of Kimberly Napoli, found James and Kimberly together. He shot and killed James Boergers. He shot at and injured his ex-wife but she managed to escape. She was transported to a medical facility.

Michael Napoli was apprehended on July 20, 2014, at a hotel 70 miles away from the scene of the murder. After a standoff, he was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the head. He was transported to a medical facility in Dayton, Ohio.

If he survives, he will be charged with aggravated murder, aggravated burglary and attempted murder.

James Boergers graduated from Jacksonville University in 2005 and started his employment with the St. Johns County Public Works Department in St. Augustine, Florida, in 2006.

He worked as a systems analyst providing technical support to the Department with respect to large public works projects.

The St. Johns County Public Works Department is in mourning over the death of their co-worker. James is described as a friend to all. He was well-liked and was a hard worker.

Neighbours of Michael Napoli, (the shooter), describe him as a nice guy, pleasant and

outgoing. However, when a marriage breakdown occurs, all bets are off. Some people brush off divorce like a minor inconvenience and some people are mentally devastated. They feel as if their lives are over. Or alternatively, they get the notion into their heads that "if I can't have you, nobody will", which seems to be the case here.

If you are experiencing a relationship breakdown and feel that you are getting out of control because of it:

~ Speak to a friend or a family member who you know is calm and who will not exacerbate the situation.
~ Speak to a priest, a pastor or someone you trust.
~ Go to the local hospital's emergency room and say that you are losing it and that you need help. You may need strong prescription drugs to calm you down. You may need psychiatric counselling.
~ Turn yourself in to the local Police, saying that you feel violently out of control and that you don't trust your own actions. They won't arrest you but they may detain you long enough to calm you down or they may refer you to a nearby medical facility.
~ Do anything you can to prevent yourself from committing murder, thereby depriving someone else of life and destroying your own life in the process.

Regret can last a lifetime.

James' loved ones are devastated over his senseless and tragic death. He will be forever mourned.

James is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members.

God save us from the Lost Ones. They are killing us, Father.

Pray that James is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.

  1. As a co-worker of Michael Napoli, I wish to extend my sympathy to the family and friends of James Boergers Jr. No one at work saw this coming. I talked to Michael on a daily basis and had no clue that this could happen. He was not the same person at work, that he turned into that night of Tragedy.

    2. One was not led on and give false hope, one just couldn't move on. Michael suffered from mental illness for years untreated without the support of his family. Many lives have forever been changed and sadly this all could have been prevented!

  3. Yes, clearly this is a case of "if I can't have you no one will." This crime was a senseless act caused by a sick obsession. Someone abusive wanting to stay in control of a marriage that was over for a couple of years. It's very sad and should have never happened. Let's not paint a pretty picture for the one who CHOSE to commit this heinous crime.

Prayers to both victims and their families!

  4. There are no winners here. Parents lost their sons, children lost their father & a woman lost her fiancee. Family members & friends will have to live with the memory of this senseless tragedy in their minds for years to come. Prayers for healing go out to all those who are affected by this heinous crime.

  5. Coming up on a year and it is still so hard to phantom. I am a very close friend of Michael and his family. I believe he was struggling with mental illness but he did try to let his ex go and live a good life. He was an amazing father and his children need to be reminded of that and never let them forget. His family helped him as much as they could. His ex unfortunately is suffering from mental illness as well and needs much support from loved ones so that she can get the help she needs to heal and lead a healthier lifestyle for her children. My thoughts and prayers go out to James's family and his fiance as well. I'm sure it is the most difficult for them to come to terms with. Wishing for a new year of hope, forgiveness and understanding.

    1. Dear anonymous, so glad you were such a very close friend, what's your name again? Also glad you knew he needed help with his newly diagnosed bipolar 2 diagnosis and helped in what way? I also am glad to see you have made sure his children were taken care of after his loss, I mean with both their parents so called mental illnesses. Also this all could have been prevented with proper help and support from his so called loving family and very close friends. Regardless he was a murdered and took an innocent life away from a mother, sister, friend and soon to be wife. Never forget theirs always help to those who have a mental illness. Wishing a lifetime of hope forgiveness and understanding to those affected by Michaels selfish actions.

  6. Dear warrior. I believe James was selfish also. If James had been home with his fiancée and not cheating he would still be here today.
