Thomas Spitzer - U.S. Military

Thomas Spitzer
Sgt. Thomas Z. Spitzer, age 23, of New Braunfels, Texas, died on June 25, 2014, while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, California.

Thomas graduated from Canyon High School where he was on the football and weight-lifting teams. He joined the Marines on August 17, 2009. This was his second overseas deployment.

His awards include the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and the NATO Medal-International Security Assistance Force Afghanistan.

His military comrades are in mourning over the death of their brother.

Friends describe Thomas as a great kid, always smiling and always respectful. He was witty, smart and humorous. He had wanted to join the military since he was a young kid. He will be forever remembered.

Thomas' family members are devastated by his sudden and tragic death. He is their hero. He will be forever mourned.

Thomas is survived by many loving comrades, friends and relatives including his parents, Jean and John; his brother, Nick; and his fiancée.

Thank you for serving, Thomas.

Pray without ceasing unto God for an end to this war in Afghanistan. It is enough. We are sick with grief for men like Thomas.

Pray that Thomas is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
