Dwight Burn - U.S. Military

Sgt. Dwight Burn, age 27, of Barstow, California, died on May 5, 2014.

Dwight was a helicopter repairer in the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. 

Dwight and three other soldiers were involved in a helicopter training accident on May 3, 2014, at Fort Bliss, Texas. At about 8:15 p.m., the Chinook helicopter crashed in the northern training area of Fort Bliss, near Orogrande, New Mexico. 

The other injured soldiers survived the crash. 

Dwight was a native of Belize.  He lived in Barstow, California and graduated from high school in 2005.  He enlisted in the Army in May of 2010. After advanced training at Fort Eustis, Virginia, he was assigned to Company B, 3rd General Support Aviation Brigade in the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade.  

Dwight deployed to Afghanistan from September of 2011 to September of 2012. 

His awards and decorations include the Air Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, and the Army Aviation Badge.

The 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade is in mourning over the death of their brother.

His former wife, Cintia Vasquez, spoke highly of Dwight and stated that he was a great father and was always there for his kids. He could light up a room with his sense of humor.

Dwight's family are devastated by his sudden and tragic death.  He will be forever mourned.

Dwight is survived by many loving comrades, friends and relatives including his two daughters, Violetta, age 7 and Vivian, age 4.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and gone the next.

Pray that Dwight is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
