Chelsea Richard - Highway Patrol - Florida - struck down on the highway

Trooper Chelsea Richard, age 30, died in the line of duty on May 3, 2014, on Highway I-75 near Ocala, Florida. 

Chelsea was a member of the Florida Highway Patrol. She had 9 years of service.   She had been with the Ocala District for about a year. 

At approximately 2:00 p.m., Trooper Richard was investigating an accident on the highway. The vehicles involved in the accident had been moved to the shoulder. She was speaking with a tow truck driver and one of the persons involved when 
a pickup truck pulling a trailer left the roadway and struck all three people standing on the shoulder. Trooper Richard and the tow truck driver, John Duggan, died at the scene. The third bystander, George Phillips, who was hospitalized has also died.

The cause of these deaths is under investigation.  It is not known at this time if drugs or alcohol were involved.

Chelsea graduated from Patchogue-Medord High School in Medford, New York, in 2001. 

The Florida Highway Patrol is in mourning over the death of their sister. She will never be forgotten.

Highway Patrol comrades describe Chelsea as a great mother to her son and a competent and dedicated trooper. 

The family of Chelsea are devastated over her sudden and tragic death. They will forever mourn her.

Chelsea is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including her mother and father; and her 4 year old son.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and gone the next.

Pray that Chelsea is in heaven. Pray that she is at peace and is with God. Amen.
