Hugh Ferguson - Firefighter - Damon, Texas

Fire Chief Hugh Ferguson, age 52, died in the line of duty on April 21, 2014, in Damon, Texas.

Chief Ferguson was a member of the Damon Volunteer Fire Department. He had several decades of service. Damon is a community of just over 550 residents.

His friends called him Bubba.

Late at night on April 21st volunteer firefighters responded to a fire in a vacant house in Damon. They were concerned that the fire could spread to nearby homes. Hugh was assisting to establish a water supply and was dragging hoses when he collapsed. CPR was started and Hugh was airlifted to a hospital in Houston where he was pronounced deceased.

It is believed that Hugh succumbed to a heart attack.

Friends stated that his community was everything to him. He had first joined the Department at age 16. He had served as chief for the last 24 years. He was also a member of the Damon School Board and was a lifelong PTA member.

Hugh's family are devastated over his passing. He will be forever mourned.

Hugh is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members, including his wife and two sons.  Hugh's sons also serve with the Damon Volunteer Fire Department.

Thank you for your service to the public, Hugh.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

Pray that Hugh is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
