Cory was a member of the Utah County Sheriff's Office. He had almost 20 years of service.
Officer Wride was on patrol and stopped to check on what he believed was an abandoned vehicle. A subject near the scene opened fire with a high-powered rifle, fatally wounding Sergeant Wride before he was able to exit his patrol car. Officer Wride died at the scene.
The suspect was chased for 50 miles across two counties. He shot another Deputy Sheriff, Greg Sherwood, age 38, who remains in critical condition following surgery. The suspect also shot at several motorists but did not hit any of them.
The suspect, Jose Angel Garcia Juaregui, age 27, was shot by Law Enforcement officers and remains in critical condition at the time of this posting.
The Utah County Sheriff's Office is in mourning over the death of their brother.
Cory's family are deeply mourning his death and will forever miss him. He comes from a close family who are always involved with each other.
Cory had built a house on his grandfather's farm in the community of Benjamin, and

Cory was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Family members describe him as a good man who was helpful and concerned about others. He was an upstanding person and law enforcement officer.
Cory is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife and his five children.
