Nonsense of Religion

I have written previously about the "Tragedy of Religion", which is self-explanatory.

Brothers, let us pray and
fight each other
in the name of Christ?
Today, I would like to write about the Nonsense of Religion, which is also self-explanatory.

On December 28, 2011, a fight broke out at the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. Priests and Monks were cleaning the church in preparation for Orthodox Christmas, when a battle over "turf" erupted between Armenian and Greek Orthodox factions.

About 100 priests and monks hurled brooms at each other during the melee which was broken up by Palestinian Police.

The Church of the Nativity is believed to be built over the birthplace of Jesus.

Ultra Orthodox Jews in Israel are accosting Jewish women on the street and calling them "filth" because they believe that these women are inappropriately dressed.

Members of the Islamic Sunni faction are killing Shi'ite Muslims and Shi'ites are blowing up Sunnis.

And now Christian clergymen....can't even agree on a way of sweeping out the Church of the Nativity. As if sweeping a floor was an earth-shaking event and a matter of debate.

All of this is too nonsensical to comprehend. It is beyond understanding in this modern day and age.

God save us from our clergymen, regardless of what religion they belong to. God save us from the Ultra-Conservatives.  God save us from the fanatics. They can lead us away from the Father and into pain.

God help us all. Amen

North Korean Dictator - Dead - but another soon to follow

Kim Jong Il, supreme leader of North Korea, age 69, died on December 17, 2011, of an apparent heart attack.

And there isn't a dry eye in the entire country. Everyone is weeping and wailing over the loss of this man.

I was watching the news reports today, about this incident.  People were filmed walking out of subways, stunned by the news, clasping their mouths in shock.  Others were filmed at some sort of National Shrine for the Leader, on their knees, pounding the pavement in grief.  Men and women were in the throes of despair, as if they had lost their father.

As I was watching this, I thought, why are there no actual tears?  How can you weep and wail and pound the ground and there is not one tear drop present?

Dry Weeping....no tears.  Not a drop.
The answer to this question is that no one is weeping.  It is all orchestrated for the media in North Korea and the world.  North Korea is well-known for putting on lavish displays of military might, where you get a thousand soldiers, all as neat as a pin, goose-stepping in a parade; hundreds of women in traditional costumes performing elaborate dance routines; and fireworks displays that can rival the Fourth of July in the U.S.A.

North Koreans like putting on a show. But it is all bravado.

North Korea calls itself The Democratic Republic of Korea.  It is neither a republic nor democratic.  It is a hereditary dictatorship. This "Kim" family has been in power in North Korea since 1948.

Oddly enough, all of the males of this family were and are as fat as hogs.  They must have been eating well for these past 63 years.

Kim Il Sung - the Father;  Kim Jong Il - the son; Kim Jong Un -
the successor?
It is unfortunate that their citizens haven't been able to do the same. Almost a million North Koreans are believed to have starved to death in past decades because of famines in their country.

North Korean orphan,
grubbing in the dirt for food.
Several years ago, I watched a "hidden camera" documentary which involved the filming of North Koreans in a number of marketplaces in that country.  I saw 6 and 7 year old kids in rags, picking individual rice kernels out of the mud, to eat.  Not handfuls of rice....one grain of rice at a time.  It was heartbreaking.

And yet, this country has one of the world's largest military systems, has a nuclear bomb program going full swing and also a "space program".

Any day now, these wing-nuts will be trying to fly to the Moon to claim it for North Korea or will be trying to bomb everyone else off of the face of the planet.

God help us all.  Save us from North Korea.

Jesus pray for the people of North Korea.  Save them from their dictators.  Amen.
