German Corporal Alexei Kobelew, age 23, was killed on June 2, 2011, in the province of Baghlan, Afghanistan, when the tank he was driving hit an improvised explosive device.
He was a member of Panzerbrigade "Lipperland" 21.Alexej Kobelew was born on November 13, 1987, in Belovo, Russia.
In April 2007, after finishing school in Germany, he joined the Infantry Battalion 212 and took basic training with the 5th Company of the battalion. In July 2007 he was added to the 2nd Company. He had been transferred in March, 2011, to Mazar-i-Sharif. Exactly three months and a day later he died.

German officials stated that he was courageous and brave and ready to give his own life in defense of justice and freedom.
Military officials described him as dutiful, balanced, professional and friendly.
Alexej is survived by his fiancee, four siblings and his parents.
Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Alexej Kobelew is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
